June 11, 2007
So I come in this morning to see my computer has restarted sometime over the weekend. Maybe it was a required Windows update, maybe is was something else updating or even Windows LiveCare doing its thing to block intruders.
50 Beautiful CSS-Based Web-Designs in 2006
December 20, 2006
2006 was rich on creative, beautiful and unusual design concepts. We
’ve seen a lot of whitespace, many examples of readable and usable text-design, badges, stars, rounded corners, shapes, gradients, mirror and 3D-effects – just name it. Let’s take a close look at some of the most beautiful designs we’ve seen in 2006.
Change a Light Bulb: It Really Can Make a Difference
July 2, 2006
I switched all my bulbs from incandescent to fluorescent for 2 reasons: 1. Saves electricity so I am less reliant on it and 2. I got tired of changing bulbs out when the would go out. I’m glad to see that if more people went to them it would trim thir electricity useage by 10%.
“A global switch to efficient lighting systems would trim the world’s electricity bill by nearly one-tenth. The carbon dioxide emissions saved by such a switch would, it concludes, dwarf cuts so far achieved by adopting wind and solar power.”
As the World Melts
July 2, 2006
“It’s no secret that the Earth is getting hot. A recent National Academy of Sciences study finds that the warming of the northern hemisphere in the last decades of the 20th century was unprecedented in the past thousand years.”
Honda to Build “Zero Waste” Plant in Indiana
June 30, 2006
By zero waste they mean nothing to the landfill. I think this could become a positive trend as Honda and Toyota try to out green the other. This is the kind of competition where we all win. “Our goal is that this plant in Indiana will have the smallest environmental footprint of any Honda auto plant in North America.” They will probably build Civics and Fits there.
New Wind Turbine Ties Directly To the Grid!

This new turbine needs no batteries and is said to cheaper and easier to install.
Using vibrations from crowds as renewable energy
June 28, 2006
Vibrations from passing trucks, the rumbling of speeding trains and even the footfall of busy city commuters could be captured and converted into energy to light walkways and buildings, engineers say. A London-based architectural firm is working on a project that aims to harness the pulse of a city and use it as a renewable energy source.
New yeast assists with ethanol production
June 26, 2006
The key to producing environmentally friendly biofuels from agricultural waste may reside in the gut of Indian elephants, say researchers in the Netherlands.
"I think it definitely will be applied within five years, probably sooner," van Maris said.
I'm excited that as technology improves, ethanol continues to become more of a viable source of renewable energy.
World energy consumption could be cut by half
June 25, 2006
"A sustainable energy future is possible, but only if we act urgently and decisively to promote, develop and deploy a full mix of energy technologies… We have the means, now we need the will," said Claude Mandil, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Accelerating energy efficiency improvements alone can reduce the worlds energy demand in 2050 by an amount equivalent to almost half of today's global energy consumption, said the report.

Warmest in the past 400 years
June 24, 2006
The 90's were the hottest decade of the millenium. I remember thinking that same thing during high school. Why was 1998 the hottest year? What changed in 1999? Did we start to realize the affects then? We are now midway through the 6th year of this decade and this report just now came out. We need to understand we have an affect on what is going on. I hope to hear that 2005 what the hottest year of this decade, but it continues to drop. Then we will know positive changes are being made.
